Fundraiser for Food Relief in Sri Lanka

We approached the community for donations in order to raise funds for people suffering from the ongoing crisis in Sri Lanka. The Hotel Windsor lent us their Grand Ballroom, chef Gayan Pieris from Many Little Bar and Bistro was joined by a team of volunteers to cook a three course lunch and volunteers worked hard to serve guests on the day. Drinks were also donated from Polperro Winery, Two Rupees Brewing and Ryan Larkin.

Auction goods were donated by: Avani Wines, Manzé, Larkin Imports, Chae, Polperro Winery, Many Little Bar and Bistro, Colournary, Grand Millesime, Two Rupees Brewing Co, Momento Mori Wines, Tom Sarafian, Maker and Monger, Tony Tan, Hardie Grant Books, Island Home, Kariton Sorbetes, Tulum, Mali Bakes, Rocco’s Bologna Discoteca, Yum Sing House, The Chilli Oil, Avinash Weerasekera and more.

Comedian Suren Jayemanne MC’ed and all guests had a beautiful day out for an important cause.

We sold out almost instantly and raised close to $25,000 at the event with all funds going to Greater Giving.

Our Impact

Greater Giving Community Outreach

We worked hard to source a not-for-profit organisation which was issuing out funds directly to those in need (pivotal due to ongoing corruption in Sri Lanka). We found Greater Giving Sri Lanka and after publicising the news and donating to them, propelled many other venues and organisations in Australia to follow suit.

Greater Giving supported struggling families in the Kalutara, Wellawatta, Gampaha and Monaragala regions and provided each with over a weeks’ worth of dry rations. Thanks to funds raised and the generosity of Greater Giving, we were able to feed 900 families.

Support of Common Ground

Donated five per cent of sales from Issue One of the print magazine to Common Ground, a First Nations-led not-for-profit that works towards shaping a society that centres First Nations people by amplifying knowledge, cultures and stories.

Colournary also provided Common Ground with free advertising space in Issue One. We are committed to supporting and giving back to First Nations organisations and causes as we are settlers on their land.

Indigi-Print

Sourced Indigi-Print, an Indigenous-owned print management company, via Supply Nation. Indigi-Print hadn’t printed lifestyle magazines prior to this and we commissioned them to print all Issue One and Two

Since partnering with Indigi-Print, other indie magazines including Kindling and Sage have gone on to utilise their services.

We couldn’t recommend Indigi-Print enough.

Emerging creatives

Creatives including writers, photographers and illustrators have gone on to create content for, or be interviewed by, SBS, The Guardian, ABC Radio, Gardening Australia and Diversity in Food Media Australia after having their first works published by Colournary.

The media and publishing industries often come down to your networks, who you know or your qualifications.

Our platform has the power to create opportunities for those who might not otherwise be published.

We aren’t here to give you a voice but to provide space for yours.

This is why Colournary was created: to provide equal access and opportunity for all First Nations, Black and People of Colour.
